iPads Make Information a Distraction: Barack Obama

Although before his inauguration U.S. President Barack Obama was rarely seen without his BlackBerry, he has criticized the current crop of popular consumer gadgets for helping to make information a “distraction.”The context of his comments is important; Obama was talking about the importance of education and Thomas Jefferson’s realization that citizens must stay informed to make a democracy work. If quoted out of context, though, his comments might not be too popular with freedom of speech advocates — or gadget lovers, for that matter.“You’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank all that high on the truth meter,” the AFP reports Obama saying during a talk at Hampton University in Virginia.

Apple Tablet video leak is obviously fake, but we still want it

Now, we’ll prefix this with a huge disclaimer that it’s 99.9-percent fake, and we’re only pointing to it because – as concept videos go – it’s a pretty slick one. Purported to be a leaked video demo of the much-rumored Apple Tablet, it shows a thin slate with a touchscreen and Cover Flow style interface.

Apple iPad- Awesome and Amazing Gadget Launched by Apple.

apple-creation-0117-rm-engRumers are over and Steve Jobs CEO apple introduced the Apple iPad yesterday that promises to new and exciting experiences for mobile computing.

“This is best gadget ever made,” says early user Jason Calacanis,  “and NOT overhyped.”

As expected, the device handles like an iPhone, but larger. However software capabilities are a mix between OSX and the iPhone OS. So while it does motion detection, rotation, and an on-screen keyboard like an iPhone, it also handles Photos and e-mail more like your laptop would. Jobs started by stating that the tablet had to be able to do things better than the iPhone and the MacBook, or else there would be no reason to make it. Thinks like browsing the web, email, enjoying and sharing pics, watching videos, enjoying music, playing games, and reading ebooks.

Hilarious FarmVille Parody Ad Tells It Like It Is [VIDEO]

“Tired of games that are fun?” That’s the question posed by a hilarious new parody commercial for FarmVille — you know, the virtual farming game sweeping Facebook that has helped Zynga rise to a valuation estimated between $1.5 and $3 billion.

I won’t spoil all the awesomeness to be found in this two minute clip that’s already amassed more than 700,000 views, but as a FarmVille cynic, I’ll tell you that I find the part about FarmVille Cash being worth as much as “real money after its accidentally dropped in a volcano” particularly amusing.

Sharing Your Bra Color- New Things on Facebook

Facebook is quite the colorful place today. An odd meme — bra color status updates — has made its way around the network, but no one really knows how or why the what-color-is-your-bra meme took off.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, women (and some men) are posting single word updates with the color of their bra, hence the barrage of “black,” “red,” and “nothing” updates from your female friends. But who’s actually behind the bra color campaign, and what they’re trying to accomplish, remains a mystery. Speculation, however, is running rampant.

Discovery and ESPN Hop on the 3D TV Bandwagon

Once deemed a novelty, 3D is now being heralded by some (like uber-mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg) as the future of the movie industry. It might also be the future of television, as companies like Imax, Discovery and Sony team up to bring 3D programming to the small screen.

The joint venture is expected to be officially announced sometime today. While all three companies will hold an equal stake in the channel, it will be distributed by Discovery Communications. According to The New York Times, the channel will showcase a mix of 3D content. (Imax and Discovery partnered together in the early days of HDTV.) You can read Discovery’s official announcement here.
