
On the order of Pakistan court, Facebook was banned in Pakistan on wednesday, after ban on Facebook PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) issued a notice to all Internet Service Providors (ISPs) in Pakistan to block YouTube, Flickr and 400+ other websites.
This started when a contest “Everybody Draw Muhammed Day – May 20” encouraging users of the social-networking site to submit sketches of the prophet Muhammad.
Face book and you tube officials are looking into the matter deeply and seriously.
As Facebook said, the content did not violate its terms. There have been protests in several Pakistani cities against the Facebook competition.
YouTube says it is “looking into the matter and working to ensure that the service is restored as soon as possible”. The site was briefly blocked in Pakistan in 2008 – ostensibly for carrying material deemed offensive to Muslims.(BBC News)
