To say the glamorous Cheryl Cole was born of humble beginnings is a massive understatement. Having grown up in Walker and Heaton’s downtrodden public housing, Cole began dancing at an early age. After winning a variety of modeling competitions, Cole began dancing at The Royal Ballet’s summer camp, all before her 10th birthday. It was apparent that Cheryl Cole was destined for greatness, but unfortunately the same could not be said for her brother and three half siblings, who have lived troubled lives since the success of their famous sister.

CHERYL COLE JOINS GIRLS ALOUD

Like so many reality contestants before her, Cheryl Cole auditioned for Popstars: The Rivals in search of fame in a bottle. But winning a talent competition doesn’t always translate to record sales, especially in the UK where singing competitions are a dime a dozen. Perhaps that’s why the unrivaled success of Girls Aloud — the group formed by the five winners of Popstars — shocked almost everybody. Their debut single “Sound of The Underground” was a massive hit, spending four weeks at No. 1 and propelling the girls to superstardom. The subsequent debut album of the same name proved that Girls Aloud were the real deal, with Chery Cole the clear standout. Despite 20 singles that cracked the top 10 and two top selling albums, Cheryl’s career ambitions led to a year hiatus for Girls Aloud, while she and the others pursued solo careers.

CHERYL COLE AND HER TROUBLE WITH THE LAW

You can take the girl out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of the girl. That was the sentiment of many when news broke that Cheryl Cole was charged with racially aggravated assault for allegedly hurling racial slurs toward a toilet attendant before punching her in the face. Cole was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and ordered to pay £500 to the victim, although all charges of any racial misconduct were dropped. Pundits saw the sudden outburst as a sign that Cole wasn’t ready to deal with the fame that had been thrust upon her, especially because of her difficult childhood spent in a neighborhood soaked with crime and drugs. Cheryl Cole would prove the naysayers wrong, again.

CHERYL COLE JOINS THE X FACTOR

Everyone knows Simon Cowell has an eye for talent, but perhaps his greatest discovery was appointing Cheryl Cole as Sharon Osbourne’s replacement on the hit singing competition The X Factor. It’s safe to assume that her role as judge on the popular show is the reason for her new level of fame. Though most female judges on shows of this nature are former pop stars, Cole is in the prime of her career. Rather than carry herself as a diva, she comes off as surprisingly down to earth, affable and genuine. Those aren’t crocodile tears. So far Cheryl has had a triumphant tenure on the show, winning both seasons — first with Alexandra Burke in 2008, then with Joe McElderry in 2009. The show has also provided Cole with a high profile platform to promote her burgeoning solo career.

CHERYL COLE GOES SOLO

Cheryl Cole has never been known for the strength of her voice, which is why some were skeptical when she decided to set out on her own. In a savvy move, she teamed with uber-producer Will.I.Am on her first album 3 Words. He has a knack for burying lesser vocals in pillowy mounds of production fluff, and the two had already scored a hit with “Heartbreaker” on which Cheryl Cole appeared. Her debut single “Fight For This Love” was one of the fastest selling singles of 2009 and was nominated for best single at the 2010 Brit Awards, where Cole performed. She has yet to break out stateside, which could very well change when she joins Simon Cowell as a judge on the highly anticipated U.S. version of The X Factor.

CHERYL COLE AND ASHLEY COLE’S RELATIONSHIP CRUMBLES

When Cheryl Tweedy married Ashley Cole, the English public found their newest power couple. The young, stunning pop star weds the handsome left back from Chelsea and England international. For many it was the second coming of Posh and Becks — a match made in heaven. Too good to be true, right? Indeed it was. In 2008, hairdresser Aimee Walton claimed to have had a drunken sexual encounter with Ashley Cole. Glamor model Brooke Healy followed suit with a similar claim. The Coles were separated briefly, but Cheryl and her husband reconciled, much to the dismay of her fans. Eventually Ashley Cole would be linked to at least a half dozen women, and finally Cheryl Cole was fed up. With her husband officially the most hated man in England, Cheryl Cole decided to end things permanently, despite a burning desire to start a family.

Everyone understands that with Ashley Cole’s extravagant lifestyle where many nights are spent on the road, there are ample opportunities to cheat. Why he continues to cheat on perhaps the sexiest woman in the UK with a cavalcade of dogs is beyond us. No divorce has been finalized, but we along with the rest of the public would be aghast if Cheryl took Ashley back.
